August 28, 2023 - Local Vacationers Breathe Sigh of Relief

By: Shelbyville NOW Staff

When the guests arrive in town annually for the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration you will usually find a parade of vehicles form the area headed to the gulf coast to get in a quick vacation while the kids are out of school.   This year is no different,  EXCEPT there is bit of tension because of a forming Tropical Storm/Hurrican developing in the southern area of the Gulf.   The storm's name is Idalia and is expected to gain strength as it moves northward into the warm gulf waters.   If you are one of the families vacationing in the Panhandle Area of Florida and Alabama beaches you are no doubt keeping a close eye on the weather predictions.   As of now it appears that Idalia will make landfall as a Category 3 Hurricane on the east side of the Forgotten Coast near Steinhatchee just to the southeast of the city of Perry.   Heavy rains and strong winds are expected throughout the area as far west as Pensacola.   Landfall is expected to take place late Wednesday and the early part of Thursday.   If you are vacationing on the Emeral Coast, breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy your vacation.  More details can be found at the National Hurricane Center.
